3 Easy Knitting Tutorials for Beginners (with Photos and Videos!)

Are you looking for beginner-friendly knitting patterns to start with? Here are three easy knitting tutorials I found on YouTube and tested myself. They are nice and easy enough to begin with. You will probably need to learn the basics, including knit and purl, but don’t worry—these videos will teach you anything extra you need to know! Below are the patterns for you to try, along with the final products I knitted.

  1. Simple Cardigan

2. Tank Top

3. Lace Socks

Knitting a V-Neck Cardigan Tutorial – irana knits

This v-neck cardigan is knitted top-down. The sleeves are picked up and knit in rounds, and lastly, the button band is knitted with ribbing.

This tutorial is easy to follow, with clearly shown instructions. It’s very detailed and split into three parts.

However, there is no written pattern for this tutorial. As a beginner, I found the visual tutorial much easier to follow than being overwhelmed by abbreviations and charts. This is also my first ever knitted cardigan.

Summer Tank Top – Handmade by Aura

This tank top tutorial came up in the search results when I was looking for some summer knits. I found that most patterns are quite hard to follow without a visual tutorial, so this became my first knit that I didn’t have to frog and finished in one go without any major issues. I highly recommend trying to knit sleeveless tops before moving on to t-shirts and sweaters.

This tutorial is easy to understand as most of the body parts are repetitive. The only part that requires more attention is the bands. It’s also a fast knit if you’re looking to finish an item quickly. I felt very proud of myself when I finished this tank top, and it took me less than a week to complete.

Petal Lace Socks – handmade by florence

Before I found this tutorial, I had been watching made by florence’s podcasts and learned so much from her videos. I started to get more interested in knitting socks after watching her show off her beautiful lace socks.

This tutorial comes with a written pattern available on Ravelry. It was a little overwhelming at first, as it was my first time following a written pattern.

Although it seems like a small project, it took me some time to learn knitting on small needles and in rounds. It also requires new skills like the magic circle and yarn over. With Florence’s video tutorial, I was able to follow and understand the new skills and pattern.

The final socks are absolutely beautiful and they fit perfectly! I’m definitely going to knit more socks soon.
